“He who does not look back will never reach his destination.” So goes an old saying we have here. It doesn’t make sense (or at least my translation doesn’t), nevertheless it is appropriate for today’s gaming news: EA has made the classic Command & Conquer Tiberian Saga available for free download.

I think Red Alert and Tiberian Dawn have been free for some time now, and EA says the addition of Tiberian Sun and Firestorm to the list of free downloads is an early Valentine’s gift.

But with Red Alert 4 on the horizon – the game comes out on March 16 – we’d all be stupid to think that this isn’t a way to promote the aging series. Still, it’s free! Head on to Command & Conquer Classics/a> to download the games. The Red Alert Soviet & Allied ISOs are 520 MB each, Tiberian Dawn’s GDI & NOD ISO’s are 600MB each, and the Tiberian Sun & Firestorm installer weighs in at 1.2GB.

Craftster forum member whateverjames/a> knows that in life, as in Tetris, all good things come to an end. You can’t keep on clearing line after line forever. Not all of the shapes you’re given will fit and stack the way you want them to. In other words:

Craftster should have a series of works with this theme – the “Game Over” moments from video games. And then they should be turned into T-shirts. Then the proceeds from each design should be sent to me, because I came up with the idea. Ball’s in your court, Craftster.

Square Enix has just announced two new Xbox 360 bundles to commemorate the upcoming release of Final Fantasy XIII everywhere else but Japan, where people are already going bonkers for this game.

Both bundles are available for pre-order and will be released on March 9th. The Special Edition comes with a limited edition faceplate created by designer Tetsuya Nomura. It also has a 250 GB hard drive engraved with the name of the game, two controllers, and special downloadable content.

The Elite Bundle comes with a standard 120 GB hard drive and one wireless controller. Both naturally include a copy of Final Fantasy XIII and an Xbox 360. The U.S. edition of the 250GB bundle is priced at $399 (USD), but the 120GB version sounds like it’ll only be available in Europe (price unknown).

Oh, I remember this little game. It was made by Rare after their success with Goldeneye

Oh, I remember this little game. It was made by Rare after their success with Goldeneye. The game was good, but not up to Goldeneye’s standard, in my opinion. Well, a port of the original Perfect Dark is coming your way, if you’ve got an Xbox 360 that is.

This is a port of the original game for the Nintendo 64 that came out in 2000. The game will receive updated graphics and will be released in March. It will cost 800 Microsoft Points ($10 USD).

Stuff like this is one of the reasons why I really love my Xbox 360. There are so many great games on XBLA, like Geometry Wars, and others. But what also like is the re-releases and updates of old school games. It appeals to the retro gamer in me. I have to confess that it took at least a week of playing Geometry Wars non-stop before I opened my other normal games when the Xbox 360 was launched.

strong>Click to View Embedded Video Clip

Hopefully, this version will make up for Perfect Dark Zero.

There are very few games where dying is a crucial mechanic, a requisite step; Beatnik Games’ Plain Sight is one of the few games that comes to mind. And that’s just because they e-mailed me to remind that the game is just about done

There are very few games where dying is a crucial mechanic, a requisite step; Beatnik Games’ Plain Sight is one of the few games that comes to mind. And that’s just because they e-mailed me to remind that the game is just about done. If you haven’t heard about it yet, Plain Sight is like Super Smash Bros. mixed with Super Mario Galaxy mixed with suicidal ninja robots.

Like in a lot of other games today, Plain Sight lets players compete by killing each other. But in order to win, at some point you’ll have to blow yourself up. Blowing yourself up “banks” or stores the energy you’ve earned for defeating other players and converts them into points. At the same time this gives you the opportunity to earn more points by taking out other players in the explosion.

strong>Click to View Embedded Video Clip

The conflict here is that the more energy you get, the stronger/faster/better your character gets, so players will have to decide whether or not to keep on playing as a dominating character, or avoid the risk of being taken out – and thus losing the energy you’ve gathered – and kill their characters before the other players do.

Beatnik Games’ wacky concept for a video game starts hitting online store shelves/a> on March 22 for only $10 (USD). The game will feature 13 multiplayer maps where up to 20 players can do battle. It also features 5 game modes, including classics like deathmatch and capture the flag as well as original modes such as the Ninja! Ninja! Ninja! Robozilla!

Beatnik is also working on a WiiWare and PS3 version of Plain Sight, but for the meantime it’s Windows-only. Check out Beatnik Games’ blog/a> and the game’s official website/a> for more info.

Blizzard will soon unleash cute plush pets for World of Warcraft fans, starting with the Wind Rider Cub and Gryphon Hatchling.

Each adorable widdle monster will come with a special code that will unlock its virtual, non-combat, account-bound equivalent. No word on the price or exact date of release yet, but they will be sold exclusively at Blizzard’s online store/a>.

If Blizzard starts selling level 80 character stuff toys or action figures or whatever with codes for their in-game equivalent, I bet a lot of lazy gamers will snap that up. Maybe they should also start selling plush gold coins with codes for their in-game amount. Take that, gold farmers!

It’s not hard to believe that this started on NeoGAF; what makes it more amusing is the fact that it started when forum member cuyahoga declared his love/a> for the Nintendo DS game Imagine: Babyz Fashion. People start ganging up on him, one of them calls him a pedophile, and he replies/a> (it’s post #73): “So, I’m a pedophile because I don’t want to play Dudebro, My Shit is Fucked Up So I Got to Shoot/Slice You II: It’s Straight-Up Dawg Time? To throw around these sort of accusations at someone who seeks to do something different suggests quite the insecurity on your part.” And thus, on December 7, 2009, Dudebro was born.

Dudebro, My Shit is Fucked Up So I Got to Shoot/Slice You II: It’s Straight-Up Dawg Time will be a top-down shooter with only one screen per level (like that zombie game in Kongregate, I forgot what it’s called), but that barely matters because obviously the draw will be in the humor that they pack in the game.

It’s currently in development by Grimoire Assembly Forge/a>, a bunch of NeoGAF members who I think got together precisely to make Dudebro… I am not copy-pasting it again. The effect is wearing off. The game will be available as a digital download on its website/a>, although I don’t know when it will be released. For more laughs and details, hit up the game’s official NeoGAF thread/a>, and marvel/be disgusted at the power of free time.

Valentine’s Day is around the corner, and what better way for us geeks to show our love than with another geeky shirt? But the 8-bit Dynamic Life shirt isn’t just any geek shirt; it’s specially made to show your loved one that you’re more alive with them around. When the wearers are far apart, the heart containers are depleted, with only 2 and a half hearts filled up.

But if the wearers get within “hugging distance” of each other, all of the heart containers fill up! Awwwwwwwwwwww, what a cute way of getting you to buy two shirts at once. Love (and radio frequency detection) at work.

strong>Click to View Embedded Video Clip

You can get the 8-bit Dynamic Life shirts at ThinkGeek/a> for $18 to $25 (USD) per shirt (price varies depending on size); in addition to everlasting love, you need to 3 AAA batteries for each shirt. But what if your special someone is a something? ThinkGeek’s got you covered – instead of buying another shirt, you can get a Transmitter Pack. Place it near your blow-up doll favorite object and watch your life max out when you get near it.

I can’t believe that this Pac-Man arcade cabinet is actually a cake. As in bake it in the oven, cover it with frosting, cut it up and eat it – cake.

The cake artists over at Seattle’s Jet City Cakes/a> created this amazing desert that looks exactly like the original Pac-Man arcade cabinet. Every little detail is there, from the miniature red joystick, to the coin slots, to the teensy little ghosts, cherries and power pills on the playing field.

The birthday cake was made for someone who simply goes by “Dad”, so if you stole this cake (you wouldn’t steal a cake now, would you?) you could give it to your own father. Or if you’re a dad, you could keep it and chow down for yourself. Wakka-wakka-wakka.
